Recycle Week 25 Sept – 1 Oct 2017
We are proud to be supporting Recycle Week 2017. The theme for this year is ‘What goes around comes around.’ We have a number of stands, workshops and events going on throughout the week. You can find more details here.
Restart Party Church Street Library – Sat 30 Sept 11am – 2pm
Our biggest event of recycle week – A team of fixers from The Restart Project will be on hand to help fix broken electrical items. So if you have a toasted toaster or slow laptop bring it along. These events are extremely popular, we recommend getting there early to avoid disappointment.
Improving recycling in flats
A project aiming to reduce the amount of contamination in recycling bins collected from housing estates is starting in October. Residents will be asked to ensure they dispose of their rubbish and recycling in the correct bins, normally found in the bin storage room or near the entrance to the blocks. New signage will be installed on bin room doors, letters/leaflets with instructions will be provided and a team of door knockers will be visiting each property.
The success of the project will be judged by measuring the amount of contamination in the recycling by sampling it at the Materials Recovery Facility in Southwark. This will be compared against a sample taken earlier this year. If the project is proven to be successful the methods will be used as best practice for other housing estates all over London.
List of Estates taking part: Lisson Green, Hall Park, Church Street, Lilestone, Fisherton Street, Barrow Hill, Townshend and Carlton Vale.

Give and Take – The Abbey Centre – Sat 21 Oct 10am – 2.30pm
A give and take event is a great way to have a clear out and bag something new without spending a penny. Bring along at least one good quality item between 10-12noon and then return after 1pm to raid the rails.
You will receive a token per item donated, you can then return to claim an item by exchanging the token.
Electrical items will be PAT tested on the day. Any items not rehomed will be recycled.
Read book recycling
Since our last correspondence over 4.5 tonnes of books have been donated for recycling. They are collected by the charity READ International and sorted; those suitable and in good condition are distributed among schools in East Africa or sold online to raise funds, those that cannot be sold are recycled. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this worthy cause!
Thank you for recycling!
